PRACTICAL ANSWERS FROM OUR SERVICE BAYS

A professional diagnostic is different from reading a trouble code or guessing at a part. At My Cypress Mechanic in Cypress, Texas, our Basic Diagnostic is $189.99 and covers an initial one-hour evaluation of an authorized concern. That time limit is important because some faults require testing that cannot reasonably be completed in an hour.

What happens during the first hour?

We start by confirming what the driver is experiencing: warning lights, a no-start, unusual noises, a brake concern, inconsistent cooling or a change in the way the vehicle operates. Depending on the symptom and available access, the authorized diagnostic time may involve an initial visual inspection, reviewing relevant trouble codes or live data, consulting service information, and selecting appropriate checks. The precise tests depend on the specific vehicle and concern.

What about a check engine light?

Scanning codes can be part of the first hour, but codes identify detected conditions, not necessarily failed components. A sensor or misfire code may require electrical, fuel, ignition or mechanical tests before a specific repair can be justified. That is why an initial appointment may lead to a recommended extended diagnostic rather than an immediate parts estimate.

Are brake concerns covered by a Basic Diagnostic?

A brake-related concern may begin with gathering symptoms and appropriate initial observations within the authorized diagnostic scope. That does not mean the fee includes removing multiple wheels, dismantling brakes, hydraulic system repair, replacing parts or comprehensive advanced testing. The work and access needed determine whether a separate inspection or extended scope is appropriate.

What's not automatically included?

Parts, repair labor, programming, major disassembly, complex electrical tracing, extensive road testing, testing multiple unrelated concerns, specialty procedures and the additional time needed to isolate difficult or intermittent faults are not automatically included in a one-hour Basic Diagnostic. We will explain when a different scope is appropriate.

What happens when the one-hour limit is reached?

Testing stops at the approved scope. We explain what the initial evaluation established, what remains uncertain and the recommended next step. If additional diagnostic work is needed, we discuss the reason and request approval before proceeding. An initial diagnostic charge does not guarantee that every fault can be conclusively identified within one hour.

How can you help us prepare?

Tell the office your year, make, model, mileage, the exact symptom, how often it occurs and whether it happens cold, warm, at speed, or when braking. Recent repairs and relevant warning-light history can also help focus the evaluation.
