PRACTICAL ANSWERS FROM OUR SERVICE BAYS

In a Cypress summer, an A/C system that blows warm air can turn a normal commute into a problem quickly. Warm air does not automatically mean the compressor is bad—or that the system simply needs another can of refrigerant.

What causes an A/C system to stop cooling?

Possible causes include low refrigerant from a leak, incorrect refrigerant charge, a condenser airflow problem, a pressure-sensor or electrical issue, compressor-control failure, or a cabin airflow concern. The symptoms, ambient temperature and vehicle design all affect the correct next test.

What we check before recommending parts

We start by confirming the driver's complaint and system operation. Depending on the concern and equipment compatibility, evaluation can involve vent temperature, fan operation, pressure readings, compressor commands, electrical signals and signs of refrigerant leakage. Testing helps distinguish a mechanical failure from a controls issue.

Why topping off refrigerant isn't always the answer

Automotive A/C is designed for a specified refrigerant type and amount. Adding refrigerant without determining the existing charge can lead to an improper charge and may hide a leak. Never mix refrigerants or use stop-leak products as a substitute for correct diagnosis.

Does a bad cabin filter cause warm air?

A restricted cabin filter can reduce airflow, but it typically does not explain every loss-of-cooling complaint. The system needs to be evaluated based on its actual symptoms rather than guessing at a single cause.
